Are there any conditions or people you cannot work with?

Therapy with me would not be suitable for those in active mental health crisis, those who have a psychiatric disorder and are experiencing psychotic episodes, those involved in heavy drug or alcohol use.

- Trained Mindfulness Teacher (MBSR/MBCT, Breathworks & Bangor)
What is Walk-and-Talk Therapy?
It's counselling on foot—blending movement, fresh air, and the therapeutic process:
- Ideal if sitting in a room feels intense
- Helps you feel grounded and embodied
- We walk gentle, local canal paths around Sowerby Bridge (dogs sometimes join!)

Is this therapy right for me?
Therapy can help whether you're dealing with specific challenges (e.g. anxiety, trauma) or broader life questions (e.g. searching for meaning, managing transitions, accessing creativity). You don’t need to be in crisis—therapy can support all parts of your journey.

Is it confidential and safe?
Absolutely. As a BACP member, I adhere strictly to their ethical code—confidentiality, non-judgement, respect and safeguarding are foundational to my practice.
What to Expect in Therapy
What happens in the first session?
The first full session is about getting to know each other and exploring what’s brought you to therapy. We’ll talk about:
- What you’d like support with
- What therapy can offer
- Any concerns or questions you have
- How we might work together
It’s a chance for you to see if the approach feels right for you, and there's no pressure to continue if it doesn’t.
Do I need to prepare anything beforehand?
Not at all. Just bring yourself. Some people like to jot down a few thoughts or questions beforehand, but there’s no expectation. Therapy is a space where you can begin exactly where you are, even if that means saying, “I don’t know where to start.”
What will therapy sessions be like?
Each session is:
- 60 minutes
- Led at your pace—sometimes focused and talkative, other times quiet or reflective
- Based on your goals, with space for whatever feels most important that week
- Grounded in warmth, non-judgement, and acceptance
There’s no pressure to “perform” or to have it all figured out.
Will you give me advice or tell me what to do?
Not exactly. In person-centered therapy, I won’t direct your life or give instructions. Instead, I offer:
- Gentle guidance
- Insightful reflection
- Space to hear your own inner voice
That said, if you're looking for practical support (e.g. tools for anxiety or relationship patterns), integrative work can include psychoeducation or techniques from CBT, mindfulness, analysis or parts work.
How often should I come to therapy?
Most clients attend weekly or fortnightly, depending on their needs and availability. We can discuss what feels manageable for you, and this can change over time. Walk-and-talk and online sessions offer flexibility. It is fine to have a combination of online or in-person sessions.
Is it okay if I get emotional in sessions?
Absolutely. Crying, silence, frustration, laughter—all of it is welcome. Therapy is a space where you can express what’s often kept inside. There’s no “wrong” way to show up.
What if I don’t know what I want from therapy?
That’s okay. Many people come to therapy not knowing what they want—just that something feels stuck, overwhelming, or missing. Together, we can gently explore what's going on and help you gain clarity.
How long will I need to be in therapy?
It varies. Some people benefit from just a few sessions. Others choose longer-term therapy to explore deeper emotional patterns or life transitions. We’ll check in regularly and review how things are going so it stays helpful and aligned with your needs.
Can I end therapy whenever I want?
Yes. You’re always in control of your therapy journey. Ideally, we would take time to reflect on the decision together in session to ensure it’s a supportive ending—but you’re never “locked in.”
What’s your therapeutic style like?
Clients have described my style as approachable, collaborative, grounded and organic
I aim to meet you as a human first, not as a diagnosis or “problem to fix.”
Supporting LGBTQ+ Clients
How do you support LGBTQ+ clients?
I offer an affirming space where your identity and experience are respected and honoured. I am:
- Knowledgeable about LGBTQ+ issues including gender diversity, sexual orientation, and intersectional identities
- Committed to anti-discriminatory practice
- Experienced with challenges such as coming out, gender dysphoria, relationship dynamics, minority stress, and microaggressions
What if I’m exploring my gender or sexuality?
Therapy can be a supportive space to explore questions, feelings, and identity at your own pace—without pressure or judgement.
Do you work with non-binary, trans, and gender-diverse clients?
Yes. I commit to ongoing training and supervision in gender diversity and strive to use affirming language and practices that respect your unique self-expression.
How can therapy help with minority stress or discrimination?
Therapy offers tools to manage stress, trauma, and emotional impact caused by societal stigma, bias, or exclusion. Together, we can build resilience and nurture self-acceptance.
